LINWOOD PARK - Vermilion, Ohio
THE HOTEL - STAND - GROVE

Linwood Park is laid out in three distinct sections. The East Side, and the West Side - and their respective cottages; and, dividing them in between is the grove.  In the grove remains "the stand" and the old grocery store, the bell tower, shuffle-board courts, playground, much open area and picnic areas.  Hotel Linwood sat on the bank of the grove. On this page you will see the images of this central part of Linwood Park in Vermilion, Ohio - both through postcards, and photographs.

WAHL'S SOUVENIR STAND
LINWOOD PARK, VERMILION, O

To the left (although damaged) this is my favorite Linwood Park postcard, divided back, and mailed in 1908.  Geo. P. Wahl ran this stand, and published a number of postcards, thus documenting the history of Linwood Park.

When researching THROUGH THESE GATES, I had the good fortune to see Geo. Wahl's original photographs that were sent to Germany to be made into these wonderful postcards.  The hanging signs in the stand say, "SOUVENIR POST CARDS"

This divided back card (circa 1920)  shows the Souvenir Stand looking towards the lake with the hotel in the background. Note the postcard writing stand, with a roof, built on an old stump.

The Stand (left) and old Grocery Store

The same view, taken when I visited the park
in November, 2000. Only the paint has changed!

This is a view of the "row of cottages" on the north side of the grove, along the road.

The photograph above is of a postcard I once saw of the Merry Go Round that was in the park for a short time in the early 1900s.

The postcard to the left shows the path along the lake front. The view is looking west.

A real-photo postcard of the Bell Tower in the Grove

This swing set has been on the west side of the grove since the 1920s. Behind it is a concession stand, long gone.

More will be coming to this page, so visit again, and now to the Hotel Page.
