A Selection of fine out-of-print and antiquarian books newly catalogued and for sale on our shelves

March 7, 2015

It has been over two years since I have updated this page, and I must now admit that I will no longer be doing so.  Last year I posted "mail-order" only because I do not want to be tied down to hours. I have many community involvements and commitments. I have also not been buying as many books as in past years, and have even less time to catalogue them.  Since this last update, I have catalogued over 1,600 books. That is in two years - I used to catalogue up to 5,000 a year. Thus this statement.

I am not going out of business.  I love buying books and learning from them, so I will always be buying ,but cataloging at a slower rate. The sale of my books pays for my toys and travels.  I also have disconnected my business telephone number because I prefer to work with emails.  Stay in touch, and thank you -- yours, RAY

Hewitt's ten-year computer study of the form, ornament, and construction of nearly 400 federal period card tables from three broad geographic areas and nine urban centers in the Eastern United States. The study is given breadth and texture by Gerald Ward's essay on early American card-playing and by Patricia Kane's chapter on the role of design and price books in standardizing card table manufacture; but the heart of the presentation is Hewitt's comprehensive statistical analysis.
